Emergency Line Boring for Port Infrastructure
Critical Breakdown on ABP Fork Truck Mast
Heavy lifting equipment is the backbone of dockside logistics. When Associated British Ports experienced a severe failure on a fork truck mast assembly, it threatened to cause significant operational delays. The pivot pin brackets had suffered extensive wear and the bearings were completely defective. Instead of waiting weeks for expensive replacement parts or dismantling the entire machine to ship it to a workshop, ABP called Hickman Engineering to deliver a rapid onsite solution.
Restoring the Parent Metal
When pivot points wear out, the standard industry fix is often to insert a weak sleeve to bridge the gap. We do not believe in building weakness into heavy machinery. Our mobile engineering team deployed directly to the port to execute a permanent and robust repair. First we completely removed the defective pivot pin bearings. Our coded welders then set to work reconstructing the bracket holes, applying fresh weld to build the parent metal back up to its absolute maximum strength.
Precision Mobile Line Boring
With the bracket holes fully reconstructed, the next phase required absolute precision. Our specialists installed and carefully aligned our advanced mobile boring equipment directly onto the fork truck mast. We proceeded to line bore both bracket holes, machining the newly welded metal perfectly back to its original manufacturer dimensions. By bringing our machining capabilities directly to the equipment, we saved ABP thousands in replacement costs and got their vital heavy machinery safely back to work.
