Heavy industry demands relentless performance from its transport and logistics machinery. At Rotherham Steel Works, their NT Liftec translifters and Terberg terminal tractors endure severe daily wear and tear moving massive steel payloads. Originally, when a Finnish-manufactured translifter failed on site, it required overseas engineers to fly into the UK to perform the repairs, resulting in unacceptable and costly operational downtime. Hickman Engineering stepped in to eliminate this delay, establishing ourselves as the official UK and Ireland agents for NT Liftec. We sat down with the client to completely rethink their approach, transitioning the facility away from chaotic, reactive breakdowns by designing and implementing a highly bespoke, preventative equipment maintenance contract.
Dedicated On-Site Engineering & Daily Management
To keep the steelworks operating at peak capacity, we took total ownership of their commercial machinery maintenance. We now deploy expert resident engineers directly to the Rotherham site three days a week to manage their Terberg and Liftec equipment. Instead of simply waiting for machinery to fail, we implemented daily operator checklists and scheduled servicing plans. This hands on approach allows us to prevent structural damage, track the mechanical health of every heavy asset, and drastically reduce unplanned distribution downtime across the site.
Imprest Stock & Rapid Workshop Support
To further reduce repair times and overheads, we established a dedicated stock of NT Liftec components at our Immingham workshop. By holding these parts locally, we bypass supply chain delays entirely. While our on-site engineers manage the daily servicing and preventative care of the Rotherham heavy plant, any major structural refurbishments or mechanical overhauls are transported back to our fully equipped Immingham base. This integrated approach has provided Rotherham Steel Works with over sixteen years of unwavering support, proving that when heavy industry needs a reliable partner to keep their cargo moving, we never shy away from the challenge.
